HPE’s Flexible Benefits Program provides you with the ability to choose the benefits that are the right fit for you and your family. Each year during annual enrollment, you can:
- Choose the levels of coverage you need for dental, medical, life insurance, accidental death and dismemberment (AD&D) insurance and long-term disability (LTD).
- Choose how you would like to spend any excess flex dollars you may have.

Medical Insurance
The medical options available provide different levels of coverage for various medical needs (hospital stays, prescription drugs, vision, nursing, etc.). There are four medical options to choose from.
Your HPE medical coverage requires no deductible and has a lifetime maximum of $1 million per person, not including out-of-country coverage.

Dental Insurance
Choose the level of dental coverage that meets the needs of you and your family. The dental plan offers you a choice of four options for reimbursement based on the current provincial fee guide.

TIP: Have all major-care or orthodontia estimates pre-approved by Manulife to avoid surprises. Just ask your dentist.
Life Insurance
You automatically receive a minimum of $25,000 or one times your salary for life insurance; however, you may choose to purchase up to 12 times your annual pay in coverage.
You can choose life insurance for you, your spouse and your children. This coverage provides additional financial protection for situations where death results from natural causes.

AD&D Insurance
HPE provides you with accidental death and dismemberment (AD&D) insurance. You automatically receive $25,000 or one times your salary in AD&D coverage; however, you can purchase up to seven times your annual pay for benefits to a maximum of $1.7 million.
This provides additional financial protection for situations where death or dismemberment results from an accident. You can choose AD&D insurance protection for you, your spouse and your children.

Disability Insurance
If you are sick and unable to work, you may be eligible to receive short-term disability coverage. HPE also provides you with four different long-term disability (LTD) coverage options.
LTD coverage provides income protection if you become totally disabled due to illness or injury.

Unused Flex Dollars
If your benefits selections leave you with excess HPE Flex Dollars, you can allocate the excess to your Health Care Spending Account (HCSA), your Group RRSP Account or as Taxable Cash.
